New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week arrived just in time for the weekend, full of fall and new colors. There was a lot of anticipation for me for my first fashion week. More than anything, I was excited for the opportunity of meeting new people and taking new photographs. Fashion week, for me, amplifies all the fascinating and colorful things that I have come to love about New York; the risks people take with the way they dress, and the abundance of things that I only used to read about in magazines as a little girl growing up in Texas.

In perfect coincidence, my friend Jessica from San Francisco is in town covering NYFW for her website The Oxfordist, so we attended the 818MINHLE Spring 2018 show at Chelsea Piers, which is a stunning place to be by the water.

So often in my day to day wear I prefer to wear florals and feminine accents, but for this occasion I knew I needed something that offered comfort for the 14 hour day ahead of me, so I opted for culottes and a blazer for the colder venues during runway shows. I value original pieces that I can't find at major chains, so very often I find the perfect new addition to my wardrobe from Poshmark (you can use my referral code of JHHUQ for $5 towards a purchase!) . These vintage Joel Parker shoes are a prime example, they remind me of the jazz shoes I used to wear for my recitals growing up.

The runway show itself was full of light fabrics, lace and chiffon. The uber feminine side of me watched in glee with the motion of the dresses and pants that moved as if in slow motion with the models as they walked down the runway.
