When it comes to the space I live in, light is everything. And over the years as a photographer and a person, I've come to admire the people who have an eye and a heart for making a space feel like home. Throughout my life I've made observations in regards to the way people carry themselves and their business, design or otherwise. Life has taught me that some of the most successful people I know are those who have the ability to display an ease in which they pursue their passions.
When my near and dear friend of nearly 20 years began to pursue a career in Interior Design I observed the effortless nature in which she delved into the world of home and space, integrating her study of Feng Shui. In Austin her and her husband James opened up the delightful Fixe, a southern style restaurant located downtown that offers appetizers such as beef tartare and their legendary biscuits and jam.
I've always been (not so) secretly fascinated with the way she weaves grace and ambition together, creating a life of joy and compassion for herself.
What was the inspiration for pursuing a career in Interior Design?
A strand of blue christmas lights I found in my parents garage when I was about 9. I wrapped it around the posts of my bed and turned my room into a magical land that I felt safe and accepted in. It changed my mood everyday knowing they were there, and each day I would look forward to sitting under them at night and restarting. Having a sacred space where beauty and creativity and comfort meet is very important to me, and became the inspiration to work in peoples homes to help create their own with their styles and needs. I want to create experiences that can be lived in.
How would you describe your personal style?
Intentional, sensual, clean, and ever changing.
Who has been a positive female influence in your life that contributes to your own personal evolution?
I've been lucky enough to have a handful of pretty incredible women around me that fit the bill-- But to choose one out of the stars I would say Mary Jo. She's been my go to counselor for over 10 years now. She's taught me how to embrace life and all of its ups and downs. She's a yoda-like Godsend who has helped hundreds and hundreds of people find peace inside themselves, I'm grateful to be one of them.
